Top trait list changes in latest proof release

Top trait list changes in latest proof releaseThe December proof release shows considerable change in the top trait lists with new number one cows for overall type, survival, SCC, fertility and feed saved.

While relatively unusual, this has come about as 6,914 new females received a genomic breeding value for the first time since the August release.

There has also been a change in top herd, with Adrian and Jan Hogg (Adlejama Holsteins, Vic) taking over from Trevor and Leah Parrish (Illawambra Holsteins, NSW).

Click on each heading to view the top 10 animals in each trait.

Overall Type
While the top three cows remain the same as the last proof release, they have changed position within the top three as a result of changes to their BPI, used as the second sorting criteria. The top three cows are Emu Banks Guthrie 8888 , Fleyas Elaborate Lottie-Et and Kaarmona MrSam Marigold 3.

Survival
The new number one for survival is Craig Lister’s Calister Kingtut Lady 6924 (trait ABV 112). The previous number drops to 10th on the list with a trait ABV of 111 (Glomar Kingpin Lucky 5661). Overall the list is considerably shorter with the increase in heifers on 111 forcing the 110s off the list.

SCC
There is sizable change on this list with the previous number one, Winaview Halogen Alicia 4 dropping from 1st to 9th. Only one previously tested cow is in front of her, making seven newly tested females in front of her. These include a Superhero daughter from Illawambra and two imported full sisters from Coomboona. Overall this is great news for cell count improvement.

Fertility
Coomboona Rambo Bolti-Imp-Et jumps to a new fertility high of 121, and at 294 BPI this heifer is sure to make some impact to the breed in Australia.

Feed Saved
One Donovan’s Dairy heifer replaces the other at the top of this list. Donovans Osmus 20499 takes over from Donovans Plan 18280.

Heat Tolerance
With the first release of a heat tolerance ABV we start to see a pattern developing with Fustead Goldwyn Guthrie siring 5 of the 15 animals listed, including the inaugural number one, being Brian and Jo Dickson’s Emu Banks Guthrie Ladonna 7827.

Congratulations to the Holstein Australia members for their ongoing investment in the breed.
