Western District Youth Camp judged a success

youth pic 1Over two days last week over 50 young people aged from 5 to 20 years old took part in the Western District camp out and Youth Show, with representatives from as far afield as Western Australia and even the UK.

Fiona Hanks, part of the Western District Sub-Branch camp committee, said that combining the camp with the youth show for the first time this year proved a great success.

“It was great to see the kids arrive quite shy and reserved on the Thursday and leave on the last day full of confidence and having made new friends. The kids were just fantastic, watching their ability to take in information and really embrace what happens at the camp.

In preparation for the show, which saw over 80 head of cattle under 2 years of age shown by camp participants, sessions were held on clipping, leading, conformation, judging, washing, bedding and safety.

The organising committee (Joanne Dickson, David Johnston, Donna Edge, Beth Schulz, Fiona Hanks) would like to thank Matt Templeton from the South Gippsland Sub-Branch who judged the show, event partners Jefo and Fonterra, and the many local businesses who contributed products or assisted with the event.

Congratulations from all at Holstein Australia on such a successful event!youth pic 3
