National Judging School FILLING UP FAST!
Thinking of attending Holstein Australia’s National Judging School in Victor Harbor later this month? Now's the time to register - spots are filling up fast! (Link to registration form at bottom of this page)
Taking place from Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th March the School will include farm visits to three South Australian Master Breeder herds – Misty Brae Holsteins, Rockwella Farm and Windy Vale – working with their animals as part of the school program.
Gino Pacitti, Breed Development & Conformation Committee Chair and school organiser says: “The school is open to any dairy cattle enthusiast who wants to learn more about assessing and describing dairy cattle. Members of Holstein Australia and other dairy breed associations as well as those involved in the herd improvement industry are encouraged to attend."
” We’ve put together a program to accommodate participants with a wide range of experience and interests. While every participant will have the opportunity to present to the panel of well-known and respected Overjudges on the final day, not everyone attends with the aim of qualifying for the National Judges Panel. For some it will be an important part of their journey to improve their dairy knowledge and skills.”
Overjudges for the 2023 National Judging School are Jenny Grey (The Pines, NSW), Vaughn Johnston (Ewen Pine, SA), Rob Walmsely (Robsvue, SA), and David Peglar (Sleepy Hollow, SA).
What to expect:
Day 1: Monday 27th March - will focus on the structure of a cow and the ethics of judging along with expectations of judges with a welcome dinner in the evening.
Day 2: Tuesday 28th March - will see participants working with groups of cows during the morning and early afternoon followed by a discussion led by the Overjudges on the differences in On-farm competition and showring judging and a communal dinner.
Day 3 - Wednesday, 29th March - is show day, with an early start followed by the opportunity to present to the Overjudges. Once activities in the show ring are over there’ll be time for a farewell BBQ lunch with an early afternoon departure.
How to register: Places are limited, and registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
