Classification Update Launch at Gunwilla Park
Holstein Australia will be demonstrating updates to its classification system and new user friendly post-visit reporting at Gunwilla Park Holsteins in Gunbower on Wednesday 15th May 2024. All HA members are welcome to attend.
To reserve your place at this classification update workshop and herd walk email Adam Sawell at asawell@holstein.com.au.
Kicking off at 10am with a welcome from Gunwilla Park’s Rob Gundry and HA CEO Rohan Butler, members of our class team will demonstrate the updated classification system and run through the changes you will see on farm during your next classifier visit.
Classification Reporting Changes
Holstein Australia CEO Rohan Butler says that there will be a significant change in post classification visit reporting as part of the update.
“There will be two major changes that will benefit members around delivery of class reports and ease of use.
“On-farm members will see that the classifier hand held units have been replaced by tablets. At the conclusion of each visit the class report can now be sent direct from the classifier’s tablet. This addresses a key issue for members and for us as an organisation, with the age of the software behind the old system often leading to reporting delays.
“The second change members will see is in the presentation and usability of their classification data. Among the major changes, members will be able to view clear colour-coded reports on their results including top five animals by composite, herd inventory by lactation, and top and bottom traits across their herd and where this sits against the ideal and breed average,” says Rohan.
Holstein Australia’s updated classification system has gone live this week. Dependant on member demand, demonstration workshops can be arranged in other HA regions. If this is of interest contact Adam Sawell at the HA office.
What to expect at Gunwilla Park, 15th May
The day will run from 10am and wrap up around 1pm, with lunch provided following a herd walk.
Following a demonstration of the new classification system by Leanne Summerville and Sean Millar, Peter Thurn from DataGene and Daniel Abernethy from Zoetis will run brief sessions on genetic improvement, with a focus on the best way to work with classification and genomic data.
Holstein Australia staff will also be on hand to demonstrate our new tissue sampling ear tags, which will be launched in the coming weeks.
Please RSVP if you would like to attend to asawell@holstein.com.au by 5pm Friday 10th May, advising if you have any dietary requirements.
