Doing it for the Youth
The East Gippsland sub-branch All Breeds Youth Show attracted a strong turnout last month with 10 exhibitors, 18 head, 8 in handles and plenty of spectators.
East Gippsland President Damien Henry said “everything starts at the local shows and running these events is essential because it’s the first place kids go to learn any skills in handling and preparing cattle”.
This year the youths were judged by Niel Van Rensburg from World Wide Sires - South Africa, who recently moved into the Gippsland region.
Mr Henry said “he was very personable and a great Judge and we’re really glad there’s still like-minded people with a passion for dairy and a great skill set moving into the area”.
The event was held at the Maffra Recreation Reserve and was backed by many sponsors including Southern Stockfeeds, Jefo, ST Genetics, Genetics Australia and First Class Genetics.
Mr Henry said “youth are extremely important and we need to make sure we provide the kids an opportunity to learn, get out and have a go”.
