Gorbro Holsteins Golden Opportunity marked a huge success
Master breeder Gorbro Holsteins Golden Opportunity sale has been named Australia’s highest averaging dairy sale in 2020 and auctioneers are calling it “the best sale this year”.
The Gordon family from Cohuna, Vic auctioned 57 heifers and cows which grossed $427,750 with the sale averaging an outstanding $7,504.
Agent Lawrie Flanagan said “it’s truly a commendable effort for a single vendor”.
The sale kicked off to an excellent start; the first 12 lots grossed $132,250 and averaged $11,020.
Topping the sale at $22,500 was Gorbro Crushabull Jessica ET who was bought by a syndicate of Rockstar Holsteins in NSW and Weeksdale Holsteins in Ontario, Canada. They plan to enter her into an embryo transfer programme with some resultant eggs being exported to Canada.
Cashing in for second place was Gorbro Livias Solotatoo, who sold to young western district breeder Isaac Stephens for almost $19,000. Additionally, this wonderfully correct heifer carries a valuable heifer-calf by the latest Hot Sire Arrow due March 2021.
Top-priced-milk-heifer was North West On-Farm Challenge winner Gorbro Lambda Tiffany who sold to the Chesworth family, Dubbo for $17,000. This remarkable young heifer is currently producing 44 litres 3.08 kg M/S with a PI of 130 and recently classified VG85.
The stylish red and white heifer Gorbro Asias Unstoppable ET from the renowned international Advent Asia family sold to repeat buyers BRM for $16,500.
Superbly-uddered Gorbro Solomck Shimmer VG86 was picked up by Nowra dairyman Andrew and wife Abbey Crawford for $12,000.
Tamworth breeder Stephen Coombes added 3 young in-milk cows for an average of $8,250 including Gorbro Soloatlee Shimmer VG87 on her second calf for $9,500.
Eloora Pastoral Company, Blighty, NSW took home two outstanding heifers due in March to Hot Sire Arrow (sexed) for $22.5k – amongst them Gorbro Unixtoo Shimmer sired by the’ udder’ bull Unix for $14,000.
Young and upcoming breeder Ben Govett bought two cows; Gorbro Kingsobrad Tiffany who is joined to hot sire Lambda for $9,250 and Gorbro Robins Tatoo; daughter of 94 point Gorbro Goldwyn Robin for $11,000.
Cattle were sold across Victoria, South Coast and Hunter Valley areas of NSW and QLD.
“It is the best sale in Australia this year and without a doubt a credit to everyone involved,” Mr Flanagan said.
The sale was conducted by Flanagan Marketing Services on-farm and streamed live via Elite Livestock Auctions for online bidders.
