Holstein Australia competitions
With the majority of state and regional shows postponed or cancelled, including the Royal Adelaide and Sydney Shows and Victorian Winter Fair, Holstein Australia’s two big member competitions, Cow of the Year and the Semex Holstein Australia All-Australian Photographic Competition are underway.
“There’s only a few days left to enter Cow of the Year,” says Holstein Australia Chief Operations Officer, David Jupp.
“This is a competition that generates a lot of interest and media coverage for the winning animal and breeder both here in Australia and internationally and is keenly contested. The quality of the cows put forward is uniformly high, presenting the judges with a challenging exercise each year.
“This is definitely the last chance to enter the 2020 competition,” says David. “If you have a cow that is highly classified, produces a lot of milk and with good family connections, you’ll be in the running for this award.”
With time very tight for Cow of the Year members thinking of entering should contact David at the office on 03 9835 7600. Further information on Cow of the Year is available here.
Semex Holstein Australia All-Australian Photographic Competition entries close at the end of June. Open to any Holsteins that have been shown since July 2019, it showcases the best of the breed from all around the country.
“The All-Australian is a really important part of Holstein Australia’s DNA,” says David. “It is a competition that attracts a lot of entries and a lot of discussion when the winners are announced. Looking back over winners and placegetters from previous years, they form an important pictorial record of the development of the breed in Australia.”
Entry is open to all Holstein Australia Herdbook and Appendix 1,2 and 3 females that have been successfully shown in the current show year. To enter simply download the entry form and competition rules, making sure to complete your animal’s Herdbook number, class entered and qualifying show and submit the entry along with your photo.
All entries must be submitted by 30 June 2020. Digital entries can be emailed to dworth@holstein.com.au. Entry forms can also be posted to Holstein Australia, All-Australian Competition, AgriBio, 5 Ring Road, Bundoora, VIC 3083.
