Holstein Australia Online Showcase Sale returns for 2020
Thursday 8th October sees the Holstein Australia Online Showcase Sale return for a second year. Vendor entries are now open for the sale, which will be broadcast live from Dairy House immediately following the Association’s online 2020 Annual General Meeting.
Holstein Australia CEO, Rohan Butler, says: “Our first online showcase sale attracted a really diverse range of high quality animals from breeders with a long and successful track record, and we’re looking to build on that this year to really showcase the Holstein breed.”
Last year’s sale was streamed live from Gippsland’s RACV Inverloch Resort to prospective purchasers around Australia, and with considerable interest both online and in the room, 17 premium registered Holsteins sold for an average of $3,533. Top Price of $8,000 was achieved by Winaview Superhero Alicia 1372, with second top price of $6,000 achieved by Gorbro Ramuno Tiffany-ET, whose grand-dam, Orchard Vale Informer Tiffany, won 2019 Holstein Australia Cow of the Year.
Unlike last year, the 2020 Holstein Australia Online Showcase Sale will be an online only event in light of ongoing travel restrictions and social distancing requirements. Dairy Livestock Services will again use the Elite Livestock Auctions platform for the sale.
“This sale is all about showcasing elite Australian-bred Holstein genetics. We’ll be putting considerable promotional effort behind the sale promoting not only individual animals, but the member breeders who have invested in and play such an important part in the continual development of the breed,” says Rohan.
Prospective vendors can download the Holstein Australia Online Showcase Sale 2020 Vendor Entry Form and National Cattle Health Declaration form here. Entries close midnight Friday 4th September 2020, and vendor entry forms must be submitted by that date to the Holstein Australia office or emailed to enquiry@holstein.com.au.
How will the sale work?
The Holstein Australia Online Showcase Sale 2020 will be streamed live, with full video, imagery and sound. Buyers and sellers can bid or view auction lots from the comfort of their home or office in real-time using a computer, tablet or smartphone. Dairy Livestock Services will arrange for animals to be videoed prior to sale on farm. Buyers will be able to participate in the auction wherever they are located.
While the cost of video footage and photography will be the vendor’s responsibility, vendor costs will be considerably lower than those associated with a traditional sale. Vendors will be advised of video requirements and costs prior to Friday 4th September by Dairy Livestock Services.
Who is running the sale?
Conducted by Dairy Livestock Services on behalf of Holstein Australia, auctioneer Brian Leslie will be selling up to 25 lots from around the country. Elite Livestock Auctions are providing the online platform, allowing breeders to participate in the auction without leaving their homes.
