Illawambra Holsteins tops out in July run
In a clean sweep for the Parrish family from Kangaroo Valley, NSW, Illawambra Holsteins has bounded straight to the top of all three Holstein Australia lists in the July proof run.
Illawambra River Sleepy 3950-CNF-DPF-BLF (426 BPI) was best young female with a first genomic breeding value, top young female and went straight in at number one on the overall top cows list.
Illawambra Holsteins’ Trevor Parrish says: “We had sixteen calves all up in the run from River, including 6 bulls, with an average of 331 BPI for the ten heifers and 6 bulls. Illawambra River Sleepy is extreme for daughter fertility and mastitis, and is four points higher than her mother was.
“The original cow family comes from Sleepy Hollow, California. And in fact the mother of the River calf was number one in her run back in 2018, Illawambra Fantastic Sleepy.”
Illawambra River Sleepy was one of four River calves from this breeder on the July top twenty list of animals with a first genomic breeding value, with Illawambra River Lucky 3940-CNF-DPF-BLF (364 BPI) at number three. Emu Banks Perseus Tiffany 2nd-ET-CNF-DPF-BLF (384 BPI) was at number two.
On the top young females list (after 28 February 2018) Wilara Jeronimo Lollie-CNF-DPF-XIF-BLF-PO (407 BPI) moved from number three in the June run up to second with a 10 point BPI increase month-on-month, with Vala Bandares Boliana-ET-PF (406 BPI) at number 3.
Wilara Jeronimo Lollie also moved up to number three on the overall top cows list, with former number one, Ivyhurst Wrangler Mystery 6194-OC (408 BPI) at number two.
The top six cows on this list, all at 400 BPI or above, came from different sires – River, Wrangler, Jeronimo, Bandares, Flamer and Moneyman.
