Believe it or not, it is that time of year already!
Yes - International Dairy Week is back and we are ready for an action-packed week ahead!

It is with great pleasure that we invite Holstein Australia members to attend the Pedigrees, People, Passion Member BBQ in the lead-up to the St Genetics Australia 'Create the Future' sale on Wednesday night.
This is a great chance to catch-up with fellow Holstein breeders as well as the Holstein Australia team. The majority of the Holstein Australia administration staff, board and classifiers will be in attendance.

YOUTH CHALLENGE BACK WITH A BANG
The Holstein Australia Youth Challenge returned to the ring today, with over 100 young men and women plying their craft in clipping, parading and judging.
We have been thrilled to see an increase in teams this year - from 7 teams in 2022 to 11 teams in 2023!
The Youth Challenge judges for 2023 are paving the way for the next generation, having been a part of the 2022 Australian Young Breeder's School team. We welcome Andrew Gray (judging), Nathan Hart (clipping) and Kaitlyn Wishart (parading) as our 2023 Youth Challenge judges.
Finally, we must extend our gratitude to Justin Johnston for his outstanding support of the Youth Challenge and Australian Dairy Youth and we are very thankful for all his efforts throughout the year and during IDW.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR MEMBERS ON THE 2023 IDW JUDGING PANEL
Each year we are blown away by the standard of judges that the IDW organiser's pull together. And this year is no exception!
Amongst the panel of esteemed judges are a number of wonderful Holstein Australia members - let us take a moment to acknowledge this fantastic achievement for each of them!
Starting with the Showmanship classes on Sunday afternoon, we have another alumni of the Young Breeders School program, this time from 2019. Well done to Julia Paulger of Adadale Jersey and Holsteins in Queensland.
The ABS Australia/Ridley All Breeds Youth Show is being judged by Tandara Brown Swiss and Holsteins, Ben Govett - whose recent judging experience include the 2022 Victorian Winter Fair.
Also judging on Monday, 16th January will be Cherrylock Cattle Co. owner Mr Brad Gavenlock. No stranger to the show ring - Brad, his wife Jess and their team are exhibiting an incredible 48 head at IDW 2023. What an achievement!
Travelling all the way from Western Australia, is Katandra Park Jerseys and Holsteins, Lachlan Fry, who will be judging the National Ayrshire Show on Tuesday, 17th January. Having judged all over Australia, we have no doubt that Lachie will do an outstanding job.
Rounding out the Holstein Australia members is an up-and-coming talent within the Dairy industry. Highly active within her local sub-branch and with youth development in her region, we are so pleased to announce Ms Courtney Afford of Billabong Farms, South Australia as the Associate Judge for the National Jersey Show on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

HOLSTEIN USA SEMINAR WITH CARL KENT
This year we are hosting Holstein USA's Carl Kent for our Seminar Series presentation for International Dairy Week.
The topic of this seminar will be 'A million reasons why conformation matters' and is summary of the extensive research undertaken by Holstein USA, including data from 1,000,000 cows.

WELCOMING 'HOLLY THE HOLSTEIN' TO INTERNATIONAL DAIRY WEEK!
We have a new member of the Holstein Australia herd - and her name is Holly!
Launching at International Dairy Week 2023; is the 2nd edition of a gorgeous little book called Holly the Holstein.
Each copy of Holly the Holstein contributes directly to Australian Dairy Youth and is a great educational tool about where milk comes from and dairy cows in general.

POWER OF WOMEN FUNCTION FEATURING AMY CADDICK
The fantastic Power of Women in Dairying function returns once again with a networking function in Wilson Hall on Tuesday, 17th January.
Speakers include 2022 POW Scholarship Winner Penelope Welch and Emergency Management Victoria's Amy Caddick.

St Genetics 'Create the Future' sale is being held on Wednesday, 18th January at 7pm in the Blackmore and Leslie Complex.
The sale will be undertaken by Brian Leslie and his team at Dairy Livestock Services. Bidding can also be completed online via Elite Livestock Services.
