Quality Holsteins shine at Echuca multi-vendor sale
Friday 10th July saw Flanagan Marketing Services hold a highly successful multi-vendor sale at the Echuca Selling Centre which saw over 200 premium and AI Holsteins sell.
The feature offering was a line of eighty-four 2 year old spring calving Holstein and FJX heifers, the majority of which were in calf to sexed semen sold account of Geoff and Daryl McNeil, Koondrook, Victoria, backed by decades of AI breeding advice from Orchards Superior Herds. The seventy-one Holsteins sold up to $3,900 to average $2,784 whilst the overall average for the outstanding line McNeil consignment was $2,601.
The main purchasers for the McNeil heifers were return buyers John and Leah Edwards from Leitchville, Victoria. The Edwards purchased twenty-eight heifers all in calf to sexed semen for an average of $3,103 each, including Lot 27 a quality heifer sired by Samite out of a Shottle in calf to Sexed semen sire ETA for $3,900. The Edwards previously purchased seventy-five head at the McNeil’s milking cow dispersal in Spring of 2019.
The other strong buyer for the day was Western District dairy operation, Leslie Manor Trust, Simpson, Victoria, who bid strongly all day and took home a superb line of thirty-four heifers for $2,604 average, including a pair of outstanding heifers by top AI sire Samite in calf to sexed sire Hooray for $3,400 each.
Chad and Kristen Gordon from Tongala consigned twenty-nine superbly bred Holstein Heifers, presented in wonderful form, and sold to $2,800 each for a group of 3 outstanding heifers. These heifers sold to local breeder Stuart Palmer, who purchased twelve heifers from the Gordon consignment for an average of $2,625. The Gordon group grossed $74,350 for an average of $2,563.
The other main vendor at the sale were Dean and Dianne Hore who have sold their farm and were dispersing their Holstein Herd. The Hore’s offered thirty freshly calved Holstein cows selling to $2,900 to average $2,140 per head.
Alan Dennis from Calivil bought eight superb fresh cows from the Hore’s consignment for an average of $2,387, including an outstanding uddered 40 litre Ginjack 4 year old daughter for $2,700.
The bulk buyer at the sale was Gavin Dehne from Cohuna who purchased forty-nine late spring calvers from Dean and Dianne Hore for an average of $1,831.
The overall sale average was 271 head sold to gross $557,250 to average $2,056 each. The sale was conducted by Flanagan Marketing Services in conjunction with Charles L. King, Cohuna.
