Warramont tops $5,000
Following the dispersal of their respective milking herds last year, Master Breeders, Warramont Holsteins (David and Trudy Fiebig of Mt Gambier, SA) and Byrne Lea Holsteins (Craig and Fiona Fisher, formerly at Drumborg in far Western Victoria) came together to stage the Complete Dispersal of their autumn calving heifers.
The sale kicked off at the Mortlake Selling Centre on Friday 25th of May as keen buyers from SA, Vic and NSW threw their hands up to compete for the 65 Holsteins heifers on offer, achieving an average sale of $3,425.
Topping the sale at $5,000 was Warramont MVP Draft. She is from a VG87 Wyman dam with 433kgs fat, selling in calf to sexed Altaglow to Threadgold and Pearce of Parana, SA. They also selected Byrne Lea Moat Phyllis for $4,000. She comes from a 468kg fat dam bred down from the Ourway Phyllis family.
Cashing in for the second highest price was Byrne Lea Heidrick Gretchen, selling at $4,800 to P and S Daniel of Nathalia. She is a classy heifer bred down from former IDW Grand Champion Jervois Inspiration Gretchen, EX.
Strong return buyers of the Warramont herd was J and J Hibberson of Katunga who selected a handful of deep pedigree Holsteins, paying $4,750 for Warramont Contender Francis who is backed by 6 generations of EX and VG dams. They also handpicked Warramont Frodo Daybreak 30 who is backed by 12 generations of EX and VG and took home some high milkers at $4,000 each, including Warramont Wrigley Flora who is from an 11,217 litre dam, Warramont Licorice Dana who is backed by several generations of 100,000 litre lifetime cows and Warramont Viewpoint Éclair; bred from a 2nd generation EX dam.
Nathan Stevens of Simpson won the bids for Warramont Viewpoint Frangipanni at $4,750 and Warramont Jacot Redfire-Red at $4,250.
Allallam P/L of Wakool, NSW selected several lots including Byrne Lea Bradnick Gretchen at $4,300 and Warramont Deltagamma Mae at $4,000.
