Windy Vale sets Holstein state record
Holstein enthusiasts from all over Australia were keen to select from the outstanding young cows and heifers at the recent A to Z of Windy Vale on farm sale at Myponga, South Australia.
The sale pulled in $600,500 for the 93 Holsteins sold, averaging $6,478 per head which is a new state record for a Holstein sale.
The highest average achieved on the day was for the 21 joined heifers, sold for an average of $7,405.
Topping the sale at $16,000 was Windy Vale Unstopabull Angel-Red (Imp.ET) GP 84 on her first lactation. This correct young Red cow is from a VG Jacoby dam, next dam Uno Armana, EX94, a direct daughter of Apple-Red, EX96 and sold to Lightning Ridge Genetics of Sale, Vic.
The same buyers also selected the equal second top lot with Windy Vale Warrior Rose. She is the current Reserve Junior Champion from IDW and sold at $14,000. Her VG87 dam is from Contender Rose EX95 who was the 2016 IDW Champion Cow.
Selling at $14,000 was the very smart heifer, Windy Vale Crushabull Tokyo (Imp.ET); this sister to Tatoo sold in calf to sexed Hanno and is backed by 3 generations of high EX. She sold to Master Breeder, Gorbro Holstiens of Cohuna, Vic.
P & C Castles of Allansford, Vic paid $13,000 for the great young red cow, Windy Vale Awesome Elegance VG. The Castles family also selected the $11,000 Windy Vale RU Acute-Red who is a full sister to the top lot.
K & H Jones of Cypress Grove Holsteins handpicked a tremendous young cow, Windy Vale Jacoby Kate who is 10th generation EX & VG. She sold at $12,000. The Jones family also took home Windy Vale Diamondback Cretonne 4589 for $10,000. She is backed by 10 generations of EX & VG. They also snapped up Windy Vale Undenied Tokyo at $9,000.
B & A Tweddle of Glencoe, SA paid $12,000 for Windy Vale Doc Apple, VG on her first lactation. She completes 10 generations of 8 EX & 2 VG.
The Wishart Family of Cohuna, Vic paid $11,500 for Windy Vale Master Tina; a super yearling by Golden Oak Master from the Toni family. They also picked Windy Vale Tatoo Apple for $9,000.
Munden Farms of Nilma, Vic purchased Windy Vale Diamond Rose-Red; a daughter of IDW Champion Contender Rose at $11,000.
Also sold for $11,000 was Lightning Ridge WV Crushabull Kalypso. She is from an EX91 daughter of WDE Grand Champion Katrysha, EX96 and sold to R & B Walmsley.
Eclipse Genetics paid $10,500 for Lightning Ridge WV Moovin Camomile-Red.
Selling agents Dairy Livestock Services and Elders report 42 lots were purchased online via the Elite Livestock Auctions platform online.
